| The Organization for Animal Dignity aims to establish an ethic of true and deep respect for all sentient animals, whether human or non-human. This entails that animals are treated and respected as individuals, like persons, like we wish to be treated ourselves, rather than as objects. [more...] |

Human Overpopulation, the Real Taboo Problem!
After James Cameron's movie Avatar
showed us some of
the problems of humanity, I (Mark Schmid)
went over to www.learnnavi.org, to exchange thoughts
with other Avatar fans. There I found the link to The Voluntary Human Extinction
Movement, www.vhemt.org, which is tremendously important and one of the
most awesome things I have seen in the web for a long time.
Naturally this movement is something of the highest priority and right
in line with respecting other species, so I added the link to Human Links.

I rewrote the text about myself: Mark Schmid
April 28'th, 2010:
A few more background images for the title banner of the web
page were added.
The Avatar slogan "We say 'Oel ngati kameie' (I See you) to all Life on Earth"
and the slogan "We respect the Other" were added to Our Slogans.
April 25'th, 2010:
To add a little diversity, several new background images for
the title banner of the web page were added. They are selected at random at every
page-load.
A new German link was added to Dogs Links,
three new English links were added to Horse Links and
one new German link was added to Stallion Links.

I (Mark Schmid)
have been advocating for animal rights ever since I can remember. The funny, or perhaps
sad thing is, I disagree on important points with very many people who do the same.
For instance, with Gary Francione, just to name a prominent one. I believe many people
who are active in animal rights or animal protection have a very false understanding of
what animals, their rights and interests are. To identify such people, and to
summarize the differences between what I believe and what they believe I have
created The "Do you believe in Animal Rights?" Test.
February 27'th, 2010:
Gary L. Francione unveiled as Animal Rights Hypocrite!
It put a big hole in my heart when I (Mark Schmid)
had to discover that Gary L. Francione, despite being a brilliant analyst
of animal welfare, as well as a vegan and the "father" of the new
"Abolitionist Movement" does not believe in animal rights at all.
He believes in using animals as means to human ends, exactly like the animal
welfare he criticizes. He believes animals do not have a right to have an own
sexuality and supposedly he has said he whishes all domesticated animals to be
castrated.
- It seems he has altered that last bit to vasectomies and tubual
ligitations, most likely only because of harsh critique by others (including myself),
not because he understands that animals have rights, such as to their sexuality, their
natural behavior, their natural hormones and body parts. According to his own
words, he supports vasectomies and tubual ligitations instead of castrations only
because these consist of a slightly smaller surgical injury, are a few less cuts
which need to be made...
He and his wife abuse castrated animals as child replacements and he is
not aware that this consists of any kind of animal usage. Being famous
the way he is, active in animal protection and a vegan over 20 years,
of course he doesn't believe he needs to learn anything new, especially not from
mere animals or from me (I have tried in vain to inform him of this in about
10 emails, very friendly at first, then when he did not take notice by either
not replying at all or only in a very superficial manner, in more
direct tones).
Sadly, the animal rights page and forum which's link I added in my last update
has not become aware of this extremely unfortunate fact about Gary L. Francione
and the people who run the site and moderate the forum are still in full
support of Gary Francione, unable to see the serious flaws and hypocrisy in him.
Unfortunately for them, they believe being 100% vegan, as Francione claims
to be and preaches, is enough to assure animals their rights. Unfortunately for
animals, this is a very common misunderstanding among many vegans.
I tried putting a dent in their views, but one man alone can change only
so much when faced by an entire community that believes otherwise.
Naturally, like in all forums, bringing up criticism about what the
administrator and moderators and with them the majority of the forum
believe in, brings about censorship, allegations, misrepresentations
and disrespect. After having my main criticism of Francione edited and
changed beyond recognition, promptly and naturally followed by personal
attacks by forum users, I deleted my posts in their forum and can no
longer recommend it. That's why I have also removed the link to them
that I had added to "Animal Rights Links"
in my last update.
