Stray Animals and Birth Control By: Mark Schmid Version: 2007.06.05

Animal protection organizations, before all, need to be the good example in all regards concerning animals. Because their job puts them into the spotlight of public awareness on questions regarding animal interests, they, before all, must show how it is done right from the standpoint and in the interests of animals. Doing something right has its price though and it is not necessarily always the cheapest solution. If price were the primary factor, no animal protection at all would certainly be the cheapest solution. So trying to reduce the price at the direct expense of those you claim to protect and represent can hardly be looked upon as a sincere and loyal effort of protecting the true interests of animals. Let alone their rights or dignity.
Really, this subject is *much* deeper than most so-called "animal welfare" organizations egoistically make it look to be. So-called "animal protection" organizations which promote castration of all animals are often really not much more than lobbies of a certain type of animal users - or abusers if you consider the severe sexual mutilation of castration to be an abuse. You'll really have to use your head though to see through the lies which most "animal welfare" organizations spread on the subject of animal sexuality. And we believe it would be worth it, because sexuality is a very important subject. Even if in this case it's "just" animals...
Too important in any case, to spread such lies and misinformation about as most "animal welfare" organizations are.
We simply try to work towards more truth in animal protection. Because how we treat what we think is below us or what is here only for our enjoyment or our needs, reflects a lot about ourselves.
Besides, we humans are creating the worst damages to ourselves, the world and the environment with our own uncontrolled reproduction and overpopulation. Both environmental problems and wars are just a side-effect of our own, human overpopulation and its resulting fights over scarce resources. So maybe we really ought to start thinking about responsible ways and humane solutions of dealing with sexuality. For our own and for that of others. Ways which we can all both accept for ourselves as well as demand of others. If you think castration is the right answer, do it to yourself first, and THEN ask yourself, if it's right of you to do the same to others, to the other gender and finally also to animals.
