The Importance of the Understanding that Animals like Sex

Sexuality is an important part of life and therefore also an important part of the dignity of and respect for every being which has a sexuality. And because not only we humans, but also all higher-developed animals have a sexuality, that includes these animals as well. And because sexuality is not a minor and neglectable part of life it is also not a minor and neglectable part of an animal's dignity.

This means that we should never assume that just because we have no use for an animal's sexuality or because we think it is suffering, because perhaps its sexuality is not satisfied as we might think it ought to be, the animal would be better off with no sexuality or sexual needs at all and that we therefore supposedly have the right to castrate it. We simply don't have that right, even if the legal laws in most countries fail to respect or even consider this, just like they fail to truly consider and respect the true dignity, nature and Interests of animals.

As long as we do not respect that animals have a sexuality and sexual feelings, often quite similar to humans, we will also not respect them as beings similar to persons, as beings with own rights. And as long as we do not respect animals, all animal protection laws and efforts will remain hypocritical, in vain or even counter-productive.
