Avatar, an important Movie for Animal Rights

Part 4

Just to give a concrete example of the parallelism between the treatment of extraterrestrial non-human species in "Avatar" and the treatment of terrestrial non-human species in reality, let's compare how the non-human species of the "Na'vi" are treated by humans on "Pandora" and how a non-human species on earth are treated by humans.
Because in my eyes, horses are in many ways as slender, elegant, beautiful, innocent and wise as the "Na'vi" and because I have gotten to know and to honor them on a personal level in my own life I personally choose the horse as the species for this comparison. However, my personal affinity to horses is not relevant for this comparison. This comparison could just as well have been made with apes, whales, dogs or almost any other non-human species which is at the mercy of western society's humans.

Two horses.
In more ways than one, horses are like the "Na'vi". They are non-human, big, elegant, beautiful and wise. And they are at the mercy of the more powerful humans.

Like in "Avatar" toward the "Na'vi", in reality too, humans think they can take from horses whatever they want. And no one could possibly stop them. Might makes right.
In "Avatar", mankind lusts for "Unobtainium", a rare and precious mineral from "Pandora", the home of the "Na'vi". In reality and on Earth, mankind rides horses out of sheer pleasure, even when not depending on riding animals for transportation any more. The sole purpose of riding horses and thereby controlling their bodies is to obtain from it a feeling of "freedom", of "power" and of "control" over the body of a sensitive living being at the mercy of humans. And perhaps this particular feeling is just as hard to obtain for equestrians without instrumentalizing and using horses in order to obtain it, as obtaining "Unobtainium" is for humans in "Avatar" without going to "Pandora"?

Dressage riding.
These days bicycles and motorcycles are much cheaper for transportation than a horse. The reason for riding a horse today has nothing to do with transportation. The riding, controlling and domination of a being subjected to our mercy is the real pleasure, human's "Unobtainium" which they cannot get anywhere else.
