Both the subject of castration and horses as a species are very important topics for animal protection in a wider sense and both are grossly overlooked by most other "animal protection" organizations. In this leaflet you can find out why these two topics are very important for animal protection.

First we made a short version which we started distributing at equestrian events wearing our Organization for Animal Dignity jackets. Then some horse owners gave us the feedback that supposedly we don't know what we're talking about.
Actually we do indeed though. I (Mark Schmid) have worked in the horse industry for about 3 years as a groom and thereby have gained a deep and intimate insight into the "horse scene". I have occupied myself with appropriate to species keeping and handling of horses, especially male horses for over 10 years and in this time I have gathered a lot of relevant information which is entirely ignored in today's horse industry as well as by "animal protection" organizations.
But since the first, short version really didn't mention why horses actually are castrated - that was the main criticism from horse owners -, I wrote a second, longer version, with smaller images but quite a bit more text which mentions this. We recommend the second, long version for people who want to know why horses are castrated and the first, short version for people who prefer short texts and large images (in the PDF file).

The PDF files of both versions can be downloaded for free and unaltered, complete hard copies on paper may be passed out and distributed at will without asking for permission. We do not want the text, images or the PDF files to be published in the internet though, but rather that links are pointed here on our webpage instead.
