"GIVE YOUR STALLION A LIFE!"
(Article about keeping and handling stallions) www.scottcreek.com/Stallion_Life.htm
Articles written by people who are deeply in love with the
subject-matter they write about are often some of the best. This article is no exception.
The author, Joanne Ross from Scott Creek Farm is a breeder of miniature horses,
but her thorough understanding of the true nature of all stallions, including
the biggest and most aggressive breeds, as well as her ability to express this
understanding in a clear manner, are much better than most other horse peoples'.
In this great article, she summarizes the two most important things about stallions
in a wonderful, short and extremely precise manner:
1.) Providing a herd environment (sufficient social contact).
2.) Pecking order and being "head broodmare" to stallions.
Temple Grandin about Stallions
(Keeping Stallins in Groups)
www.grandin.com/inc/animals.in.translation.ch4.html
Many of today's so-called "horse-people",
including Monty Roberts, believe stallions are nutcases you can't handle
and therefore ought to be castrated. Temple Grandin knows
this isn't true and wonderfully explains why in this linked part of her
book "Animals in Translation".
"Horsemanship mit Hengsten"
(German article about handling stallions) www.grubhof.ch/pferdeartikel1.htm

Przewalskipferde_Junggesellen.pdf
Detailed German article about the experiences made with
keeping stallions in groups in connection with the re-settling and re-breeding of
Przewalski-horses. Also mentions that false keeping of stallions in groups
can lead to severe injuries and death of individual animals, but unfortunately
fails to mention which mistakes were made and neither analyzes why some stallion
group keepings worked without any problems whatsoever and others did not.
Roanoke A.I. Laboratories
(Semen Collection / Sexual Assistance for Stallions)
http://www.roanokeai.com
Roanoke A.I. Laboratories is one of
the oldest and most trusted names in cryopreservation of
stallion spermatozoa in the USA. They have internationally
published some of their research and continue to be
pioneers in refining semen cryopreservation and collection
techniques in horses and exotic equids.
Here you will find information on subjects such as artificial insemination,
semen collection from stallions and also
PDF-files
of Dr. Crump's article in the Journal of Theriogenology
on his method of semen collection from stallions by
manual stimulation of the penis without using an
artificial vagina.
Dr. Crump has proven with countless stallions how easy it is to assist stallions
sexually by using nothing but your hands, even for male and female students.
But Dr. Crump has not done this for the pleasure and benefit of horses.
Neither has he done this as a noteworthy and perhaps useful or even relevant grooming
service for horses in regards to establishing a trusting and safe relationship between
stallions and their handlers which considers all the horse's needs as good as
possible. Dr. Crump has only done this as an alternative means to collect semen
from stallions for human financial gain and this is the only way he wants his
work to be understood.
