Temple Grandin on Stallions
In her book "Animals in Translation" Temple Grandin writes what really makes stallions "aggressive nutcasses". Not the testicles as many people like to blame, but false keeping and rearing.  [more...]

The Mutilation of Animal Protection
Both the subject of castration and horses as a species are very important topics for animal protection in a wider sense and both are grossly overlooked by most other "animal protection" organizations.  [more...]

Heavy Petting
Peter Singer is regarded by many as a father of the current animal rights movement. In 2001 he shocked many superficial "animal activists" with his groundbreaking article "Heavy Petting" which we are proud to present here.  [more...]

Revolutionizing Animal Protection since 2 years, 167 days, 5 hours, 28 minutes and 8 seconds.

Besides the known forms of animal abuse, every day countless animals are needlessly sexually mutilated in the most severe way, only to be exploited and used for the satisfaction of human, often gender-specific, egoistic needs as conveniently as possible. This often happens under the pretext of supposed "animal welfare".  [more...]

Unfortunately we cannot deal with and treat all forms of animal cruelty. Not with the very limited personnel and financial resources which we currently have. That's why we try to focus our efforts and work on topics which are left out or ignored by other animal protection organizations.
Fortunately for animals though, almost all topics which we do not treat, or not sufficiently, are treated by many other animal protection organizations, many of which have much more personnel and funding and thus usually in a much better quality than we ever could. So instead of trying to rival them with less time, less people and less funding, we confine ourselves to the topics they ignore, link to them for all other topics and let their, at least in some parts very good work shine for them. For this reason link pages were added to
Animal Protection and to Animal Protection Switzerland.
To make it clear for everyone that we are not fundamentally and unconditionally against any or all sexual interactions between animals of different species, including the human animal, the link to E.F.A. - Equality For All was added to the links in the
Humans section.

July 13'th, 2008:
The article "The Dream of the own Horse" previously already published on the former StallionPage was translated, the afterword updated and added to the horses section.

Change of Financing Policy
Based on reader feedback, we have decided to change the financing policy of the Organization for Animal Dignity. Up to now, I (Mark Schmid) have tried to encourage people to support us by not giving away everything for free. After all, there is a lot of time, effort and also money spent for this project. Time, effort and money which mostly Fridolin Steinauer and I have spent and continue to put on the line. It seems only fair to me, that other people, especially people who can afford it better than we can and come here to consume our work and efforts, also help support our most ambitious and difficult but important project, by at least helping us with a minimal financial donation to help us pay at least for our webpage. - As a "thank you" in advance, for our efforts, time and money spent every year to maintain this project and its webpage.
Unfortunately "thank yous" in advance do not seem to work either. While it is true that many people do not like, or never have learned to say thank you and thus never will give the Organization for Animal Dignity anything in return for what they get from it, forcing all people to contribute to our cause before they get what they want seems to also shy away people who would otherwise perhaps have become valuable members and supporters. Without giving things away for free, we will never know.
The only alternative remaining is what caused me to give up my former animal protection project, the StallionPage. Namely to just give people everything they want for free until those people who do indeed support this project get tired of having to do everything themselves and then having to also pay for others, not friends but anonymous strangers, who do nothing.
I have a lot to say about animal protection and about the dignity, the handling, the keeping and the respect for animals. Things which all kinds of people with power, prestige and influence do not like to hear at all. Unfortunately this comes at a price, a high price, even if I am helping others, unknown, anonymous people who I have never met, will never meet, who have much more power, influence, money and possibilities than I or we do and who will most likely never even say thank you. In a way this project forces me and those who support this project to love such people, unknown strangers, more than I and perhaps our supporters are willing to, by giving them the time, efforts and money which we put into this project for free and without any kind of compensation. But perhaps that really is the only way to improve things for animals.
For these reasons most of the content which until now was available only for members and for a small fee was made available to the public free of charge.

Animals like Sexuality
Many people believe animals have no need for sexuality when not producing offspring or are incapable of experiencing sexual pleasures and that it would therefore be o.k. to castrate animals. Such people are lacking sex education and factual knowledge about animals.  [more...]
